It was more than 30 years ago, in 1983, that Breitling created its first aviation chronograph in response to a bid from the Italian air force acrobatics team, Frecce Tricolori. The resulting aviation watch – created in close cooperation with the squadron—was so innovative, professional, and functional that Frecce Tricolori made it the team’s official watch, and Breitling owner Ernest Schneider deemed it the company’s flagship model. A year later, in 1984, in honor of the firm’s hundredth anniversary, Schneider launched an entire line of Chronomat watches for mainstream sale. They became instant winners and the fate of the Chronomat as an icon for Breitling was sealed. In fact in 2009, the Chronomat collection was the first to receive the new Manufacture Breitling calibers.
Over the years, the Chronomat has gone through a series of aesthetic changes and functional adjustments, all while remaining stylish and highly collectible. Breitling has also continued to improve the performance, sturdiness, precision, and reliability of its signature chronograph. Because Breitling watches retain their value, they are excellent items for loan seekers to bring to pawn shops, and this ensures that pawn shops like Loudoun Jewelry on Maple Avenue always have a healthy selection for customers to browse.
