Headquartered in Madrid, Carrera y Carrera is a premier Spanish jewelry company that dates back to 1885, when Saturio Esteban Carrera opened a small jewelry workshop; that business was carried on by a son and his four nephews. In 1960, when Queen Fabiola of Belgium planned her nuptials to King Baudoin, the company was commissioned to make the royal wedding tiara. The distinction associated with this prestigious commission perfectly positioned the company for successful growth.
In 1965, Saturio’s great-grandson, Manuel, opened his own shop, in Madrid intent on creating an internationally recognized brand. By the 1970s, he and another great-grandson, Juan Jose–through travel and exhibitions–had succeeded in building the company we know today.
The hallmark of Carrera jewelry has always been its intricate and imaginative gold and gem designs, often conveying strong symbolic components through use of human or animal motifs. Indeed, the unique sculptural designs are the hallmarks of this company’s artistic process. Because Loudoun Jewelry on Maple Avenue is one of the area’s top jewelry buyers, we often have Carrera y Carrera pieces in our inventory, so check us out when you’re shopping for gold jewelry in the DC area.
