While the little blue box from Tiffany’s is instantly recognizable to most people, it’s still what’s IN that box that is truly delightful. Whatever it may be, jewelry lovers worldwide know that it’s beautifully designed.
Tiffany was founded in 1837 in New York City. Today there are Tiffany stores around the world, all offering a variety of gifts, many of which are jewelry.
The famous ‘Tiffany Blue’ color was originally used in 1845 by Tiffany on the cover of their first mail order catalog. Today the color is protected under trademark and is produced as a private custom color by Pantone. Its PMS number is 1837, the year Tiffany was founded.
Tiffany has had a part in many famed jewelry designs: the New York Yankees “NY” logo; revisions to the Great Seal of the United States and the Metal of Honor on behalf of the US Department of the Navy, to name a few.
The Tiffany name is also synonymous with world reknown designers. In 1956 famed designer Jean Schlumberger joined Tiffany and in that same year Andy Warhol and worked with Tiffany on the company’s Holiday Cards. Tiffany’s current jewelry designers include Frank Gehry, Elsa Peretti, Paloma Picasso and Jean Schlumberger.
